Bert Wylen interviews Keith Boykin, former special assistant to President Bill Clinton and White House spokesperson. Wylen and Boykin discuss his work with Black gay and lesbian communities and the misconception that Black communities are more homophobic than white communities. Boykin cites studies showing Black people’s strong support for gay civil rights and discusses the role of Black church ministers in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Wylen and Boykin examine the myth that gay rights threaten or appropriate the civil rights movement.
