Description
Tommi Avicolli hosts a discussion on surviving childhood as a homosexual with Bob Early and Jobriath “Jo” Blue for WXPN Gaydreams radio show. The three discuss being seen as different and not fitting in as a child, later issues with work, religion, and social relations, and the benefits of a gay community center. Avicolli interviews Michael Weltmann on the work the International Gay Association (IGA) is doing to challenge the United States ban on homosexual immigrants. Avicolli and Weltman discuss how the ban affects immigrants at the border, how Congress and President Ronald Reagan are addressing the ban, the test case of Philip Fotheringham, a gay man from England denied entry, and the possible second test case of Karen “Kim” Christine Friele, a lesbian Norwegian official denied entry seven times. Fotheringham is organizing demonstrations worldwide to be held September 25, 26, and 27, 1981, including a demonstration in Philadelphia in front of the Liberty Bell on July 26 and a march on Washington on July 27.
